1. Eviction Protection Extension
The coronavirus relief bill recently signed by the President includes an extension of Rent Protection to the end of January 2021. According to The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, Twenty-three million adults reported that their household didn’t get enough to eat, and an estimated 1 in 4 renters with children lived in a household that was behind on rent. The question now is, will the stimulus checks be in the hands of Americans before January 31?
2. Large Retailer Exemption
While the ban on indoor dining is still in force, Montgomery County has in the same breath granted an exemption to 26 large retailers, letting them have more than 150 people inside their doors at one time. Just in case you are trying to keep up like I am, the County has a “What’s Closed” list on their website.
3. South African Booze Ban
In response to hitting a one million COVID-19 case peak, the South African government has banned all sales on alcohol, again! As per the Associated Press, the Country banned alcohol previously, and had a total ban on liquor sales, trauma cases in hospitals dropped by as much as 60%, according to government statistics. This is in conjunction with other strict measures like the closures of bars, public beaches, swimming pools, a curfew and mandatory mask-wearing in public. The holidays are definitely going to be a little “dry” for some in the beautiful Nation.
