1.President Biden lifts bans
President Bident has expired bans that the former administration imposed last year on Foreign Work Visas. NPR reports that the ban, imposed last June, was designed to prevent temporary workers from a range of industries from entering the country. At the time, President Trump said the freeze was needed to both protect public health and safeguard a job market that at the time was in freefall.
2. Kenya launches 5G
Kenya has become the first Country in East Africa to launch a 5G network. Reuters reports that Safaricom, the largest Kenya telecom operator, has started 5G trials. The trials, which started with four Kenyan cities and towns on Friday, will be expanded to 150 sites in nine urban areas in the next 12 months, Safaricom said in a statement.
3. S.A concludes vaccine sale
South Africa has concluded the sale of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. Bloomberg reports that South Africa has stated that they found it to have little impact on mild infections caused by a variant of the virus first identified in the country last year. South Africa has pivoted to using shots developed by Johnson & Johnson for its initial inoculations.
