1. Maryland repeals Police Bill of Rights
The State of Maryland has become the first state in the Nation to repeal the Police Bill of Rights for Officers accused of misconduct. Politico reports that Maryland’s Democrat-controlled legislature on Saturday moved to pass a sweeping police reform package that repealed the state’s police bill of rights, becoming the first state in the nation to do so, and overriding Republican Gov. Larry Hogan’s vetoes in the process.
2. Coronavirus Update
There is good news and bad news about the ongoing coronavirus in the Nation. CNN reports that The United States is still seeing an increase in coronavirus cases and hospitalizations, especially among younger people who haven’t gotten a vaccine. However, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky did point out death rates are going down. That’s cold comfort considering more than 562,000 people in the US have now died of the virus.
3. Cicadas
Love them or hate them, the cicadas are apparently on schedule for an appearance soon. The Washington Post reports that the The cicadas are from Brood X, and they’ve been living underground for the past 17 years. This May, cicadas will emerge in tremendous numbers across much of Northern Virginia, Maryland and Washington.
