1. It’s Tax Day!
Today is April 15, but there is some good news! CNN Business reports that the IRS has pushed the deadline to May 17 to give individual filers, tax preparers and the IRS itself more time to sort through the many changes affecting one’s 2020 taxes from the latest Covid relief package.
2. D.C Water Gets Loan
A Federal loan has been given to DC Water for much needed improvements. WTOP reports that Michael Regan, at his first in-person event as Environmental Protection Agency administrator, on Thursday announced the $156 million loan through the Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act. Regan said the project will improve drinking water distribution in the city by “upgrading the main pumps that serve roughly 700,000 D.C. residents, including communities of color and low-income communities.”
3. MoCo Vaccine Pre Registration
Montgomery County is opening Pre Registration for the COVID-19 vaccine. The County posted that residents 16 and older with underlying medical conditions can now pre register on the Montgomery County Official Website. This group is an addition to the list the County is already serving.
4. Justice for the Ivory Coast
Former warlord Amade Ouremi has been sentenced in a court in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. Eyewitness News reports that Ouremi has been charged with 24 charges of mass murder, rape and inhumane and degrading treatment over the violence in Duekoue, which occurred as Ivory Coast was in the grip of a post-election civil war in 2011. The court handed him a life sentence over the massacres in western Ivory Coast in which hundreds were killed.
