Amazon announced today that it’s first HeadQuarters in Africa will be in South Africa. Business Tech reports that The development design in Cape Town intends to create a 150,000 square metre mixed-use space, divided into commercial and housing uses across two precincts. The developer intends 31,900 square metres to be used for residential purposes.
2. Housing Justice Act
MoCo has passed the Housing Justice Act this week. The Source of the Spring reports that Councilmember Evan Glass (D-At Large), one of the lead sponsors of the bill, said “With the passage of the Housing Justice Act, we are ensuring that residents who have experienced homelessness or were incarcerated for minor offenses are not discriminated against when they apply for permanent housing,” in a press release.
3. Coal Miners
President Joe Biden’s $2 million green energy plan has a new backer. CNN reports that The largest coal miners’ union in America, United Mine Workers of America said that the plan would create lots of new job opportunities. The coal industry would benefit from the Biden proposals to rebuild bridges, ports and airports — likely boosting demand for steel, which typically uses coal as a key ingredient. They join climate activists in support of the plan.
