1. Racial Disparity in MPD
An independent review has been released that shows racial disparity in the Metropolitan Police Department. WTOP reports that an independent agency that reviews complaints against D.C. police officers released a report Monday calling on the Metropolitan Police Department to “reduce racial disparities” after noting that 91% of people subjected to police use of force in 2020 were Black.
2. Tesla
Tesla hit $1 billion in profit in the last quarter. CNN reports that Tesla posted record profits Monday — its third record quarter in a row — as its adjusted earnings reached the $1 billion mark for the first time. The company recorded $9 billion in total revenue. After losing money in 2018 and early 2019, Tesla is now one of the most valuable US companies, with stock worth more than the combined value of the world’s seven largest automakers.
3. US Secretary to visit Africa
The US Secretary of State is to make his first official visit to Africa in a different way. Al Jazeera reports that Antony Blinken is set to make his first visit to Africa, virtually, where he will meet with the presidents of Nigeria and Kenya. Tuesday’s tour will include a meeting with African youth from across the continent.
