#1. Vaccines in Ghana
COVID-19 Vaccines have arrived today in Accra, Ghana. BBC reports that Ghana has become the first Country to receive 600, 000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine through the COVAX vaccine-sharing initiative. The WHO shares that COVAX is co-led by Gavi, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and WHO. Its aim is to accelerate the development and manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines, and to guarantee fair and equitable access for every country in the world.
#2. Horn of Africa Envoy
As the crisis in Ethiopia heightens, the biden Administration is considering establishing a special envoy for the region. The Administration shared with foreignpolicy.com that a new special envoy for the Horn of Africa would address political instability and conflict in the East African region, including a brewing civil war and humanitarian crisis in northern Ethiopia, through current and former officials.
#3. Italian Ambassador Killed
The Italian Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo has been killed. VOA News reports that the Ambassador was killed as a U.N Envoy was ambushed near Goma. Two other people were killed and several were injured as a U.N World Food Program was enroute to visit a school.
