1. MoCo Youth & Safety Bill
Montgomery County has passed a bill that protects youth and public places. The Source of the Spring reports that Bill 4-21, Weapons – Protection of Minors and Public Places – Restrictions Against Ghost Guns and Undetectable Guns, known as the “Ghost Guns Bill.” was passed yesterday. “In the past year, ghost gun sales have skyrocketed across the country, including in Montgomery County. The immediate accessibility and the obscurity of ghost gun detection in areas of public assembly poses an absolute threat to the safety of our community,” Council Vice President Gabe Albornoz (D-At Large), the lead sponsor, said in a press release.
2. The Suez Canal
On March 23 The Suez Canal was blocked by a large ship from China heading to Norway that got stuck. NBC reports that the Egyptian authorities have finally unblocked the ship carrying about 20,000 containers. The backlog built up after the massive Ever Given ship grounded in the narrow canal on Mar. 23, generating global interest as refloating efforts stalled, and costing billions in held-up world trade.
3. English Pandemic End Date
The British Prime Minister has announced a date when the COVID-19 restrictions will end. BBC reports that Prime Minister Boris Johnson told MPs the plan aimed to be “cautious but irreversible” and at every stage decisions would be led by “data not dates”. A new four-step plan to ease England’s lockdown could see all legal limits on social contact lifted by 21 June, if strict conditions are met.
