1. MoCo Rental Relief
Montgomery County has a rental assistance available to eligible renters that have been affected by the pandemic. The COVID-19 Rent Relief Program provides short-term rental assistance to eligible households who have experienced lost income due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has caused them to fall behind on their rent. While funds are available, the program will provide up to $12,000 to eligible households to pay for back rent owed and/or pay for up to three months of future rent.
2. Table Mountain On Fire
South Africa’s famous Table Top Mountain National Park is dealing with a raging fire. CNN reports that An “out of control” fire is burning in Cape Town’s Table Mountain National Park, damaging buildings and prompting the evacuation of hikers from the city’s most famous landmark. Around 200 firefighters have been dispatched to battle the massive blaze, including 4 helicopters to contain the fire and work on the fire line.
3. Cuba’s New Leadership
Cuba’s new leader is not a “Castro”. Al Jazeera reports that Miguel Díaz-Canel has been named first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC), the most powerful role on the island. He will be the first person to run Cuba since the 1959 revolution. He now holds Cuba’s two most important positions, head of the party and president of the state.
